Municipal authorities have warned residents against rebuilding unauthorized structures as enforcement of the government's new trade order policy enters its fifth day.

Rukungiri Municipality has intensified its crackdown on illegal developments, demolishing temporary and unauthorized structures as part of the government's new trade order policy being implemented in urban centres across the country.

The enforcement exercise entered its fifth day on June 8, with municipal officials warning that any structures rebuilt without approval will face demolition.

Speaking during the operation, Senior Physical Planner Vastine Kenganzi urged residents to comply with municipal regulations and seek approval before undertaking any construction works.

Kenganzi warned that the municipality would not tolerate illegal developments, regardless of the resources invested in them.

"The municipality will not allow illegal developments to remain, regardless of the money or effort invested by property owners," he said.

Municipal authorities say the exercise is intended to restore order, improve urban planning, and ensure developments conform to approved standards.

Health Inspector Evas Asiimwe encouraged residents planning to construct new structures to first consult the municipality for guidance, noting that advisory services are offered free of charge.

She also called on owners of structures already marked for demolition to voluntarily remove them to avoid additional losses and enforcement action.

"I call upon owners of structures that have been marked for demolition to remove them voluntarily," Asiimwe said.

The ongoing operation is part of broader efforts by local governments to implement the new trade order policy, which seeks to improve organization and compliance within urban centres across Uganda.
